Post-award

Project Period (Period of Performance)

The full span of an award from start to end date, across all its budget periods.

The project period, the Uniform Guidance calls it the period of performance: is the entire interval the sponsor has approved for the work, from the award start date to its final end date. It can contain several budget periods.

Costs generally have to be incurred within this window to be allowable; spending after the end date, absent an extension, is unallowable.

Why it matters

Costs outside the period of performance are disallowed, which is why end-date tracking and extensions matter.
