Post-award
Award Closeout
The final administrative process that formally ends a grant after its project period.
Closeout is the set of steps that wrap up an award after its end date: submitting the final progress report, the final financial report, and any invention or property reports, and reconciling final expenditures.
Sponsors impose firm deadlines, often 120 days after the end date, and unresolved closeouts can block future funding to the institution, so closeout is tracked as carefully as the active award.
Why it matters
Late closeouts are an institution-wide problem; overdue final reports can freeze other awards.
