Assistance Listing (CFDA Number)

The catalog entry and number identifying a federal assistance program, formerly the CFDA number.

Every federal assistance program has an Assistance Listing with a unique number whose first two digits identify the agency. Hosted on SAM.gov, the listings replaced the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA), though many people still say CFDA number.

The number appears on funding opportunities and award documents and is used to classify awards for reporting and the Single Audit.

Why it matters

The assistance-listing number ties an award to its program for reporting and audit, so it has to be recorded accurately.
