Notice of Funding OpportunityNOFO
The public notice announcing a funding opportunity: its goals, eligibility, deadlines, and how to apply. Formerly the FOA.
A Notice of Funding Opportunity is the document a federal agency publishes to solicit applications. It sets out the program's purpose, who may apply, how much funding is available, the review criteria, and submission deadlines. NOFO has largely replaced the older term Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA).
Reading it closely is the first pre-award task: it defines what the sponsor will fund and every requirement an application must meet to be considered responsive.
Every eligibility rule, page limit, and review criterion lives in the NOFO: missing one can make an application non-responsive.
