Administrative Supplement
Extra funding added to an existing award for work within its original scope, no new competition.
An administrative supplement provides additional funds to an active award to meet increased costs or add closely related work still within the project's approved scope. Because it's within scope, it doesn't go through peer review like a new application.
NIH uses these routinely, for example diversity or equipment supplements. Requests that stray beyond the original aims are treated as a change in scope instead.
Supplements are a fast way to add resources without a new competition, but only for work genuinely within scope.
