Rebudgeting
Moving funds between budget categories after an award is made: sometimes free, sometimes needing prior approval.
Once an award is active, projects often need to shift money between categories: more supplies, less travel. Many sponsors allow routine rebudgeting without approval, but some changes trigger prior-approval requirements: large shifts, moving money out of participant support, adding equipment, or anything signaling a change in scope.
Knowing which moves are free and which need sign-off keeps spending compliant and avoids disallowed costs.
A rebudget that quietly crosses a prior-approval line can turn ordinary spending into a disallowed cost.
